Kainan University in Taiwan

Eastern Oregon University has established an exchange agreement with Kainan University in Taiwan, seeking to enhance the scholarly interaction between each university through the exchange of faculty, professional staff and students. Signed in August 2005, the agreement recognizes the value of scientific and educational exchange and promotes research and teaching activities at each institution.

Located in Xinxing Village in Luzhu Township, Kainan University has grown from a commercial and technical high school into a fully accredited institution of higher learning recognized throughout Taiwan. Construction of the main university building was completed in 1997 and the school received official sanction in March 2000.

Students from EOU and Kainan University may participate in the exchange if all admission requirements are met. Students from Taiwan who wish to attend EOU will pay Oregon resident tuition and fees directly to EOU. To be eligible for transfer as an exchange student, applicants must have completed their second or third year of study in Taiwan. For three quarters, Kainan students will be considered full-time undergraduate students at EOU, taking 12-15 credit hours per term. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate from EOU.

Students currently enrolled at EOU who wish to attend Kainan University will pay no additional tuition and fees and will be provided with free accommodations and complimentary classes in Mandarin Chinese while in Taiwan. Completion of one full year of study at EOU is required for students to be eligible for application. Students will be required to take a full-course load for one or two semesters and will receive a certificate from Kainan University upon completion. They will then return to EOU and continue studying for their degree.

This exchange is also available to graduate students from Kainan University and EOU. If accepted, students may receive a master's degree upon completion of one year of study at either institution.
