The Disability Services Office strives to provide and promote a supportive, accessible, non-discriminatory learning and working environment for students, faculty, staff and community members with disabilities.

These goals are realized through the provision of individualized support services, advocacy, and the identification and sharing of current technology and information related to accessibility and accommodations for persons with disabilities.

Our Services

The Disability Services Office helps ensure that all students with disabilities have equal access to programs at Eastern Oregon University. DSO arranges for reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The accommodations provided may vary because each case is evaluated individually. The Disabilty Services Office serves as a resource on disability law and compliance for the university.

Accommodations:

Eligibility Requirement:

In order to for a student to receive accommodations through our office, they need to establish that there is a disability. Documentation of the disability needs to come from a medical professional or a vocational rehabilitation counselor. It must include a specific diagnosis and copies of any testing done to establish the diagnosis.

After the disability is established, they need to show how the requested accommodation will help the student perform tasks necessary. A statement regarding the appropriate accommodations for the individual should be included with the documentation of disability. Other documents, such as the IEP from high school or vocational plan, can assist in determining which accommodations would be helpful for the student.

When we have received all of the application materials and medical documentation, we will review them to determine if the student is eligible for accommodations. We prefer to meet with students in person whenever possible. We will send a letter outlining the accommodations for which the student is eligible.
